Why I Call Myself a Wedding Makeup Artist (Not Just a Bridal Makeup Artist)

When it comes to makeup for weddings, the term “bridal makeup” is often used to describe the signature looks created for a bride on their big day. While this term has been widely accepted in the industry, I've intentionally chosen to call myself a wedding makeup artist instead. Here’s why.

Inclusivity Matters
Weddings are a celebration of love, and that love comes in many beautiful forms. The term “bridal” traditionally centres around a bride, but not every nearly-wed connects to the word "bride". While many of my clients do identify as brides, I want to ensure that everyone getting married, regardless of gender identity or expression, feels welcome, valued, and celebrated. Love is for everyone, and so is makeup.
By calling myself a wedding makeup artist, I reinforce the idea that my services are for everyone. Whether you’re a bride, groom, non-binary, or anywhere on the gender spectrum, you are welcome in my chair. Your love story is valid, and you deserve to feel your absolute best on your wedding day.
Makeup is for Everyone
Makeup isn’t just about achieving a certain look; it’s about self-expression, confidence, and enhancing your natural beauty. Whether you want a soft and romantic glow, a bold and dramatic statement, or a natural, understated look that still feels like you, your wedding day makeup should reflect who you are. My job as a makeup artist is to help you feel like the most authentic version of
yourself, no matter how you identify.
For those who prefer a light, true no-makeup makeup look, I offer The Refined, a subtle application designed to brighten and conceal while keeping your natural features at the forefront. Because everyone deserves to feel radiant, empowered, and authentically themselves on their wedding day.
Celebrating Every Love Story
Words shape our experiences. In an industry that has long been marketed toward brides, I want to ensure that every nearly-wed feels represented and included. Choosing the term “wedding makeup artist” is a small but intentional step toward making the wedding beauty space more welcoming for everyone.
